Tamales Bertha, a food truck in Guadalajara, makes hands down, the best tamales that I have ever tried. For those who do not know, a tamal normally consists of a filling like meat or beans surrounded by cornmeal, wrapped in a banana leaf or corn leaf, and than steamed until cooked. Tamales can be either sweet or salty.

What makes these tamales so special is the craftmanship, the flavor of the fillings, and the salsa that is provided on the side with the tamales. The tamales at Tamales Bertha are never dry, and the fillings provide the right combination of hot, savory, and spicy. The salsa is a unique tomato based salsa that provides a slight taste of garlic on the tongue. While the tamales by themselves are already epic, the salsa makes them world class. I have eaten the majority of the tamales at this food truck and can say that all of them are amazing but the one that stands out the most would be the tamal with cerdo deshebrado en salsa verde. I also recommend the tamal with chicharron.

The tamal is a mexican classic, and Tamales Bertha makes some of the best in Mexico. To find these delicious treats go to the left corner of the Bodega Aurerra that Avenida Chapultepec intersects after 7:30 PM Monday, through Saturday.
